A gifted child is a child first. When too much attention is placed on the gift, children can experience anxiety, alienation, underachievement, and other challenges. For gifted children who already experience the world with greater intensity, those challenges can affect not only the child but the entire family.
How can you create greater balance? How can you support achievement while still making space for your child’s emotional, social, and developmental needs?
In this session, Tracy Ford Inman, Ed.D., will explore what it means to support the whole gifted child and offers ideas for creating a healthier balance between ability, expectations, relationships, and simply being a kid.
Tracy Ford Inman, Ed.D., has presented at the state, national, and international levels; trained thousands of educators in differentiation and gifted education; and worked with thousands of parents of gifted children. Her publications include articles and books, including four TAGT Legacy Award recipients.
After a two-decade career as associate director of The Center for Gifted Studies at Western Kentucky University, Inman now works as a consultant. She previously served as the parent representative on the National Association for Gifted Children board and currently serves on the board of The Association for the Gifted and chairs her state’s gifted foundation board.
