Become a Mentor with TAGT’s Emerging Leaders Program
TAGT is proud to offer a mentorship opportunity as part of the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP)! This important component connects seasoned leaders in gifted education with new district G/T coordinators who are eager to learn and grow in their roles.
As an ELP Mentor, you’ll have the rewarding chance to:
- Share your expertise and insight to help new leaders gain confidence and clarity.
- Offer encouragement as they navigate the challenges and opportunities of district leadership.
- Experience the satisfaction of knowing you are shaping the future of gifted education leadership.
Mentors are paired with participants based on district demographics and/or identified needs, creating meaningful and relevant connections.

Mentor Qualifications
- Active or retired with 5+ years of experience in gifted education leadership.
- Have or have had district-level G/T program leadership responsibilities.
- University-based mentors must have school district experience in gifted education.
- Be a TAGT member in good standing.
- Commit to a minimum of one year of mentorship with an ELP participant.
Mentor Responsibilities
Mentors serve as trusted guides and sounding boards, not program directors. Your role is to support—not direct—your mentee’s work. Specifically, mentors will:
- Answer questions and provide guidance on an as-needed basis.
- Join a fall kickoff online meeting and a spring Q&A session with mentees.
- Be encouraged to connect further through ELP online trainings, giftED, Leadership Conference, or similar events.
