But how does one do that in a classroom with mixed ability students? Ideas and specific strategies will be shared to show this very thing.

Todd Stanley (aka The Gifted Guy) is a dedicated educator, author, and speaker renowned for his nearly 30 years in gifted education. Connecting the Dots: Practical Strategies for GT Humanities

Humanities programs bring G/T history and G/T English language arts together to create a more connected and meaningful learning experience. By intentionally linking literature, writing, historical events, art, architecture, and critical thinking, students are encouraged to see how ideas and concepts intersect across disciplines. This session explores practical strategies for designing integrated learning experiences that promote deeper thinking, meaningful connections, and greater depth and complexity for G/T students even when history and ELA are taught as separate courses. 

Facilitators: Craig Mims and Ginny Wenger

Craig Mims, G/T Specialist, Dawson Middle School in Carroll ISD, is a 20-year educator with experience teaching middle and high school students. He has taught G/T students since 2011 and humanities courses since 2015, focusing on integrating history, English, critical thinking, and creativity to create meaningful learning experiences for gifted learners.   

Ginny Wenger is a 23-year educator who is passionate about helping students discover connections that make learning meaningful. After teaching American Studies at Carroll Senior High School, she is excited to return to Dawson Middle School to teach G/T Humanities, a program she helped establish. With a lifelong passion for both history and English, Ginny enjoys creating engaging learning experiences that bring the two disciplines together.

Bots, Bytes, and Bright Ideas: Tech Fun for TPSP Projects

Explore how to seamlessly integrate digital creation tools, coding platforms, and multimedia technology into TPSP to deepen inquiry and enhance authentic product design. This fast‑paced session models student‑friendly tools that support research, data collection, prototyping, and creative expression, empowering gifted learners to produce polished, tech‑infused TPSP projects with real‑world relevance. 

Facilitator: Adriana Sanchez

Adriana Sanchez is the Advanced Academics Specialist at Bel Sanchez Elementary in Alvin ISD, where she has spent the past six years inspiring gifted learners in grades K–5. With 30 years of experience in education, she holds an MBA, a Master’s in Education, and a Bachelor’s in Bilingual Education. Adriana designs deep, complex learning experiences that honor student interests and challenge their thinking. She holds a national certification in STEM education and has international teaching experience. a

Daily Wonderings and Genius Minutes: Finding Ways to Fit Curiosity, Passion, and Wonder into Everyday Activities

Discover the many benefits of curiosity and practical ways to spark it in your students. Examine websites that inspire wonder and explore activities that help students identify their passions. 

Facilitator: Sheila Mulbry

Sheila Mulbry is currently retired after spending more than 30 years advocating for gifted students and their needs. She has presented professional learning on gifted education at local, state, and national conferences. Her areas of passion include curiosity, social-emotional needs, and the fascinating workings of the gifted brain. She obtained BA degrees in Humanities (‘83) and Elementary Education (‘90) and holds ESL and Gifted Endorsements from the State. Awards include TAGT’s 2013 and 2019 Educator of the Gifted, and she formerly served on the TAGT Board.

Coding Across the Curriculum: How Coding Makes Content Come Alive

This session explores how the power of coding can revolutionize content delivery across all subjects. Participants discover practical strategies to design engaging, interactive learning experiences where students actively apply coding principles to deepen their understanding of core curriculum. 

Facilitator: Jennifer Cooper

Jennifer Cooper is a passionate and dedicated educator for the Gifted and Talented program in Leander ISD.  She co-created the gifted program in Manor ISD prior to coming to Leander and sits on the TAGT Awareness Committee. With over 15 years of experience in gifted education, Jennifer specializes in fostering critical thinking, creativity, and independent inquiry among highly capable learners.

Facilitator: Ashley Kettler and Autumn Riley

Ashley Kettler, Advanced Academics Instructional Facilitator, Mansfield ISD, brings over 18 years of experience in gifted education, specializing in program design, student support, and professional development. She has led gifted services across traditional, fine arts, STEM, and dual language campuses, and played a key role in initiatives like Camp Invention and Battle of the Books. 

Autumn Riley, Digital Learning Coach, Mansfield ISD, brings her experience as a former English teacher and middle school assistant principal to her role. Known for her energetic and positive-minded approach, she’s passionate about saving teachers time and effort while creating engaging lessons for students. When she’s not immersed in the world of digital learning, Autumn enjoys long-distance running, reading, and jamming out to 90s music!

Chances for Challenge

Facilitator: Todd Stanley (AKA The Gifted Guy)

Chances for challenge are not planned out ahead of time, but rather are those teachable moments when a student shows an interest, asks a question, or exhibits a passion. This requires teachers to be on the lookout for these and have a bag of tricks to use when the moment presents itself. Some of these tricks involve probing questions, igniting the spark of curiosity, and providing space and guidance for the plunge.

Using Children’s Literature to Promote Pondering

Facilitator: Johnna LaRoque, G/T Program Teacher, Ector County ISD

Participants will be exposed to the importance of incorporating pondering activities into their lesson planning to promote creative and critical thinking skills. Attendees will be shown a variety of books and activities which promote deep thinking. Reflection time will occur to incorporate ideas learned in this session into their classroom.
