Help Them Thrive® for Gifted Education Leaders: Human-centered Leadership
Melissa Majors

District and campus leaders in gifted education are carrying a unique kind of pressure: shifting expectations, staffing cuts, changing funding realities, and the constant responsibility of advocating for students while protecting the humans doing the work.

In this interactive, story-driven session, Melissa Majors blends behavioral science, practical leadership coaching, and “We’ve been there” humor to help leaders stay steady, think clearly, and choose to thrive despite the obstacles.

Grounded in insights from Melissa’s acclaimed book Help Them Thrive®, participants learn brain-friendly, field-tested strategies to strengthen trust, reduce friction, and build a culture where people can do meaningful work without burning out.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Lead through uncertainty without leaking stress into the culture (and what to do when your brain is in threat mode)
  • Deliver tough messages with clarity and care, so people feel respected, even when they feel disappointed
  • Turn conflict into connection (and sometimes even innovation) instead of letting tension simmer
  • Use brain-based feedback techniques that land with accountability and humanity
  • Build psychological safety and trust at the table, so leaders stop feeling alone and teams stop feeling brittle
  • Protect their own well-being while continuing to advocate, influence, and lead with integrity

Life Maps: A Reflective Leadership Tool for G/T Leaders
Stephanie McAlpine

Through experiential activity, guided self-reflection, small-group collaboration and application planning for campuses and districts, gifted and talented learners thrive when supported by educators who understand both their academic and social-emotional needs. Life Maps is a reflective leadership framework that helps G/T leaders identify the experiences, strengths, and values that shape their instructional choices and interactions with high-ability learners and staff.

In this session, participants will create their own Life Map to uncover themes that influence how they respond to intensities, cultivate talent, build relationships, and design learning environments. Through guided reflection and small-group dialogue, attendees will explore how Life Maps can strengthen campus culture, deepen educator self-awareness, and enhance collaboration among G/T teams.

Participants will leave with a completed Life Map, a facilitation guide for using the activity with staff or students, and clear strategies for integrating reflective practice into G/T programs. Life Maps promotes perspective-taking, empathy, and intentional leadership, key components for supporting the whole gifted child.

Data That Delivers Strategy
Luke Hurst

Ready to take a deeper look at gifted learner outcomes in your district?

Gifted learners’ performance data can reveal powerful insights, but only if districts know how to translate accountability measures into meaningful program action. In this session, Richardson ISD will share how we are using newly released TEA accountability data to strengthen gifted and advanced academic programming through intentional program review and curriculum redesign.

Participants will engage directly with their own district TAPR data, analyzing outcomes through the lens of gifted and talented learners and identifying key trends that can inform next steps. You will also walk through the practical strategies that were  implemented to raise the rigor of advanced coursework, including curriculum compacting, and highlight the results and impact of these efforts.

Attendees will leave with concrete tools, a clearer understanding of G/T-focused accountability reporting, and actionable starting points for strengthening advanced academics in their own districts.
